Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland is thrilled to announce that Anelle Harris is the Gold Award Girl Scout from Kennett, Missouri for her extraordinary action in providing young girls the opportunity to be exposed to gymnastics as an extracurricular for free.
Anelle noticed young girls in her community were expressing interest in tumbling classes. When she found out many could not participate because of financial reasons she decided to seek out a way to change this. She decided to host free tumbling clinics for girls interested in trying out gymnastics. During the clinic, she provided instruction on basic gymnastic skills so that the students could continue to develop tumbling skills on their own. After the event, Anelle provided information on scholarships for girls so they could continue their progress with local gyms after the clinics ended to allow them to keep learning the sport. Anelle said she chose to do this because “I would like to boost self-esteem for each girl by helping them learn new skills and feel good about themself.” It is determined Girl Scouts like Anelle that prove if you follow your passions, you can encourage others to do the same!
