Volunteer Awards

Do you know an adult volunteer who deserves recognition?

Showing love and appreciation for our volunteers is a long-standing Girl Scout tradition. After all, our volunteers are Ah-mazing! Our volunteers are all about the girls. We love them for it and, well, Girl Scouting wouldn’t be the same without them.

Our volunteers are changing the lives of girls in their communities every day. Some volunteers go above and beyond all expectations and have a definite impact on not only their troop, but their service unit and sometimes even the whole council.

GSUSA Volunteer Awards

Girl Scouts of the USA has chartered these awards for use across the Girl Scout Movement. These awards move in a progression, and can be awarded to any volunteer if the nomination criteria is met. Recipients are honored at an annual recognition event.  Nominations are accepted at any time throughout the year, but must be postmarked by February 1 for the following ceremony.

To nominate a volunteer, complete the GSUSA Award Nomination Form. You also might need the GSUSA Award Endorsement Form.  

Volunteer of Excellence

This award recognizes volunteers who have contributed outstanding service while partnering directly with girls in any pathway to implement the Girl Scout Leadership Experience through use of the National Program Portfolio or who have contributed outstanding service in support of the council's mission delivery to girl and adult members.

Appreciation Pin

The Appreciation Pin recognizes an individual's exemplary service in support of delivering the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. This support has had measurable impact within one geographic area of service to help reach and surpass the mission-delivery goals of the area.

Honor Pin

The Honor Pin recognizes an individual's exemplary service in support of delivering the Girl Scout Leadership Experience; this support has had measurable impact on two or more geographic areas of service to reach and surpass the mission-delivery goals of the council.

Thanks Badge I

The Thanks Badge honors an individual whose ongoing commitment, leadership, and service have had an exceptional, measurable impact on meeting the mission-delivery goals and priorities of the entire council or the entire Girl Scout Movement.

Thanks Badge II

The Thanks Badge II honors a previous Thanks Badge award recipient who has continued to provide exemplary service in a leadership role which resulted in a measurable impact benefitting the entire Girl Scout Movement.

Volunteer Years of Service Pin

The Volunteer Years of Service Pin recognizes an adult member registered with Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. for her/his years of active volunteer service at five-year intervals (25, 30, 35, etc.). The council purchases pins for the five-year increments starting at 25 years of service and recognizes these volunteers at the volunteer recognition ceremony if a Years of Service Form  is submitted by the deadline. 

Note: This pin differs from the numeral guard in that it represents the number of years an adult volunteer has actively provided service, whereas the numeral guard recognizes years of membership.

GSMH Volunteer Awards

In the 2020-2021 Girl Scout Membership year, Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland began honoring volunteers who have gone above and beyond in specific categories related to supporting girls and other volunteers in their geographic areas within GSMH boundaries. The GSMH Awards are nominated and endorsed by staff members and in some cases, Service Unit Volunteers, for their exceptional service throughout the previous year. Recipients will be honored at the annual recognition ceremony. All nominations are due by February 1.

GSMH Cookie Champion

The GSMH Cookie Champion Award honors volunteers who have gone above and beyond in their support of the Girl Scout Cookie Program, including being a cookie expert in their community, supporting others throughout the cookie program, encouraging girl-led activity throughout the cookie program, and facilitating cookie program engagement in their community. This award is nominated by Cookies+ Staff Members. 

GSMH Diversity Award

For a volunteer who not only endorses diversity within GSMH, but takes active steps to encourage global diversity and inclusion of all types within their local area. This volunteer seeks to help girls and families have a true Girl Scout Experience regardless of identities that may pose challenges to that goal.

GSMH Glowing Green Award

For the volunteer who visibly exhibits a sincere commitment to the Girl Scout Promise and Law over an extended period and repeatedly inspires others to carry out the Girl Scout mission.

GSMH Lasting Legacy Award

For the volunteer that has led a troop in good standing from Daisy through Senior levels, or has led a troop that has completed Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards OR is a long-term volunteer whose service has contributed immensely to the growth of GSMH and spread of the Girl Scout Mission throughout the geographic area covered by GSMH and has clearly left a legacy which honors Girl Scout values.

GSMH Leadership Launch Award

This volunteer is a registered Girl Scout adult in a troop leadership or assistant leadership role for less than two years. This new leader has hit the ground running and made a positive impact on Girl Scouting. This volunteer's performance is so outstanding that it merits recognition. This new leader has put effort into helping girls grow in courage, confidence, and character, as well as sharing their commitment to the Girl Scout Promise and Law.

GSMH Model Service Unit Award

The GSMH Model Service Unit Award honors an entire Service Unit for going above and beyond to deliver great experiences to girls in their area. They show uncommon initiative, while championing girl ambition through events, experiences, and community involvement. This award is nominated by Volunteer Support Staff. 

GSMH Product Program Partner

The GSMH Product Program Partner Award honors volunteers who are vital in the facilitation of product programs in their troop, service unit, and community. This volunteer supports fellow volunteers throughout these programs and helps lead the way for girls to succeed! This award is nominated by Cookies+ Staff. 

GSMH Rising Star

The GSMH Rising Star Award recognizes a first-year volunteer who has embraced the Girl Scout movement with energy and passion and has performed outstanding work in their first year.

GSMH Service Unit Volunteer Of the Year

The GSMH Service Unit Volunteer of the Year Award honors two volunteers each year from different geographic areas within GSMH who have gone above and beyond to champion girl ambition, support other leaders, create connections with their community, and be a leader within the GSMH sisterhood. Volunteers who earn this award have great relationships with girls, other volunteers, community members, and GSMH staff. They are truly inspiring to all of GSMH. This award is nominated by Volunteer Support Staff. 

GSMH Unsung Hero

The GSMH Unsung Hero Award recognizes volunteers who help wherever needed, whenever needed, and completes whatever needs to be done.


Community Awards

GSMH and GSUSA offer awards for community partners and teams who have supported local and community Girl Scouts throughout the previous year. Recipients will have the option to be honored at the annual volunteer recognition ceremony. All nominations are due by February 1.

Juliette Gordon Low Community Partnership Award

The Juliette Low Community Partnership Award recognizes an organization or an individual in the community who has supported Girl Scouting over the past year.

The President’s Award

The President's Award recognizes the efforts of a service-delivery team or committee whose exemplary service in support of delivering the Girl Scout Leadership Experience surpassed team goals and resulted in significant, measurable impact toward reaching the council's overall goals.

GSMH Service Unit Awards

Designed by Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland and made for you—our volunteers! Service unit volunteers nominate their volunteers, then Troop and Service Unit Support approve them at any time of year! These awards are presented at local service unit ceremonies. We are able to provide a printed or digital file with certificates for these awards if notified within 4 weeks of a planned local recognition ceremony. 

To nominate an outstanding volunteer for a Service Unit Award, complete the Service Unit Award Certificate Request Form.

Service Unit Guiding Star Award

The Service Unit Guiding Star Award recognizes a volunteer who provides outstanding, continuous mentorship to others. The volunteer shares knowledge, tips, and is readily available to help new volunteers.

Service Unit Helping Hand Award

The Service Unit Helping Hand Award recognizes a volunteer who has exhibited exemplary leadership and community service during the last membership year. This volunteer leads girls to make exceptional contributions to their community. They are a shining example of Girl Scout’s values of leadership, service, community, and volunteerism.

Service Unit Outdoor Enthusiast Award

The Service Unit Outdoor Enthusiast Award recognizes a volunteer who has provided outstanding service that furthers outdoor education for girls and/or adults, performed at a level that exceeded expectations, and completed an exceptional number of outdoor activities.

Service Unit Outstanding Leader Award

The Service Unit Outstanding Leader Award recognizes a volunteer for service beyond the expectations for the position and will be presented by the service unit team.

Service Unit Outstanding Volunteer Award

The Service Unit Outstanding Volunteer Award recognizes a volunteer for service beyond the expectations for the position and will be presented by the service unit team.

Create Your Own Local Awards

Any number of things deserve recognition at the local and service unit level! Have a volunteer that really excels at keeping things girl-led? Honor this with a “Service Unit Most Girl-Led Troop” Award. Have one that does a great job with Fall Product Program? Why not give a “Fall Product All-Star” Award? Have a great Girl Scout Dad? Help honor him with a “Man Enough to be a Girl Scout” Award!
