What is the Girl Scout Silver Award?

The Girl Scout Silver Award is the highest award a Girl Scout Cadette can earn. Going for your Girl Scout Silver Award gives you the chance to show you are a leader dedicated to making your community a better place.

Girl Scout Cadette Troop 10089 recognized how plastic bags harm the environment. They wanted to encourage their community to switch from plastic to reusable cloth bags. They decided to make reusable bags out of recycled t-shirts and donate them to area businesses for customers to use. “It will show that sometimes even the stuff you think is completely useless and should just be thrown away can be kept and used in another way, “ said Molly, Girl Scout Troop member.

Girl Scout Brianne L. addressed the problem that hospitalized children did not have activities to occupy them through their stay.  She wanted to give them something to take their mind off their situation. Brianne and her team educated the community on the need and collected items such as coloring books, cards, puzzles, games, books, etc.  She also decorated and put together the many boxes for use at local hospitals.  Her work inspired the hospitals to replenish the boxes to keep up her work past her involvement.

Girl Scout Natalie C. worked with Pathways Nursing Facility to create a PowerPoint and educational program to present to community groups about eating disorders and to teach their patients and families how to get help.  Natalie wanted to give her community members awareness of the global issue of bulimia, anorexia, and binge eating disorder.  Natalie shared her presentation with friends and family and hope they will be inspired to share it with others.
